Will the military help pay off my college loans?

Military

college loans
Dougie Fresh asked:

As of right now I am an ROTC cadet. I don’t plan on contracting until my Jr. year of college so for the first two years I will be taking out college loans. After I graduate and become a 2nd Lt. is there anyway that the government will help pay off my or will I have to pay them myself with my own salary?

There are programs available to pay off your loans, you would tke care of that paperwork once you become active duty.

I know they have programs for enlisted, but only up to a certain amount. I think the different branches have different amounts they will pay off. Not sure about for officers.

If there is, make sure it is agreed upon prior to signing your contract!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are many scholarship programs that the armed forces offer. For example, I am trying to apply for the Health Professional Scholarship Program of the Air Force, in order to pay for my medical school. Talk to a recruiter and he will help explain it to you.

wait a second. Loans that you took out BEFORE you contract? I dont see how or why they would or should.

    5. Young Old Man Says:

Yes. The Army has the SLR plan.

The Student loan repayment plan has to be requested when you join and it is for both enlisted and officer. They repay up to $65,000 of the original loan, not any of the interest. Each year they pay off 1/3 of your loan. You are in charge of putting your loans in deferment or forbearance.

I don’t know what the policy on ROTC, you may need to check into that.

I think it is a great deal compared to the GI Bill.

    6. The Tin Man Says:

check out the Simultaneous Membership Program in the Army Reserve and National Guard.
