I’ve already gone with citifinancial, and they really ripped me off. I was just wondering if there are any companies that I can trust.

Normally I would say any student loan lender that has been around for over 15 years can most likely be trusted….but Citibank fits that bill. I’m not sure how they “ripped you off,” but if an established company like Citibank does that, I’m not sure where else you can turn. I had my student loans through Sallie Mae…they are also a reputable company.

Not to suggest that you were not ripped off, but sometimes miscommunication occurs between lenders and borrowers. Sometimes you are not asking the right question, or they are not understanding what your asking (which I finds happens often when you outsource your CSR team to India *cough* Sallie Mae *cough*). I see this happen a lot.
I have to agree… look for companies that have been in the business for a long time, even if it is Sallie Mae. lol Unfortunately, this is a horrible time to look for lenders in the FFELP and private education market because many of them are leaving or suspending their services.
A couple of choices that I know are still playing ball.. Sallie Mae, Bank of America (uggh), Citizens Bank, Ed America, KEY Bank, and JP Morgan Chase.

You would find many companies offering students loans, but most reputable ones are Wells Fargo, MELA (Maine Educational Loan Authority) and Education Finance Partners. It is considered safe taking loans with them, because they are in business for quite long with good repute. Get more about their loan amount, interest rate, interest rate discounts, borrowers options etc from:

That sucks that you had a bad experience with citifinancial. I would recommend using a service that allows you to compare different lenders and their loans. I work with one,, where you apply and 6 reputable lenders bid on your loan. You can then evaluate and compare the offers against each other to see what is the best for you. I hope this helps! Good luck!
