The Student Loan Company wants a copy of?

Higher Education (University +)

student loan company
Neil_R asked:

a recent Bank Account Statement, as “evidence of means of subsistence”.

It has my name & address (which they have anyway), but it also has my account number and ~ but no security details. That’s not enough to commit fraud, is it?

They’re a and wouldn’t ask for it if there was any security risk, would they?

Should I blank anything out before sending them a copy?
The are just asking me to “help them update their information”.

I graduated last year and I am due to repay the loan from this April.

They’re not asking for money, but need to know how I’m supporting myself: “Evidence of means of subsistence”.

Why not call them and ask 0800 504010.

I know every application is different, but I don’t remember supplying them with anything under that category.

    Ask them…

They want the account values, they don’t really need the account numbers. You can probably blank the account number out before you send it to them.

well first, is this a student loan you are getting threw your finincial aid office? if so, i have never had them ask for a copy of a checking account,,,,,, if it not,,,, then yes you would want to blank out your account information,,,,, it just sounds odd that they would want a copy of it,,,,,

I graduated in 2002 and the student loan company has NEVER asked me for this information before. The details for the student loan repayments merely appear on my wage slip. However, I currently earn less than the £15000 limit and am therefore not required to make payments through my wages yet. Your circumstances are probably different to mine, so I suggest that you phone up one of the advisors as soon as possible to clear this matter up. If you are still required to send a bank statement, I suggest that you photocopy it first and send the original as recorded delivery, so that someone has to sign for it at the other end (you might also want to keep an eye on your bank balance until your statement is returned, if you’re very worried about security).

    Good luck!

The SLC only need details of the account with your name and address on the statement so as to prove that you are the owner of that bank account.
Due to the increasing risk of fraud, everyone is becoming more cautious, including the SLC. So this is ultimately a check to protect you and to ensure that they are paying your loan into the correct account.

You can ask the bank for a recent Bank Account Statement and they will print one out with just your name, and address, it will not have your account number or bank sort code on it. This information will be replaced by xxxxx. The student Loan Company is certainly reputable, but this will go in a file, and you never know who will have access to that file. Be safe, do not send them a zeroxed copy of your account, but one that the bank makes up for you. The one the bank makes up for you looks a lot better than one you blank out yourself.
