Repay Stafford loans for undergraduate, but not graduate school?

Financial Aid

euges115 asked:

I was an undergraduate from 2002-2006, and a from 2006-2007. I have a Stafford loan with both schools, both subsidized.

I recently received a request for repayment of my Stafford loans from my undergraduate school, *not* graduate. As I understand, since I just graduated in June of 2007 from my graduate program, I should be in my six-month grace period.

Or is it that a Stafford loan from my is DIFFERENT from a Stafford loan from my grad school?

Can I request a deferment, and that the Stafford loan program should update their records to reflect the fact that I just graduated?

combine them with Federal Direct or Sallie Mae, then request another six month defferment. They ahve to give it to you, and I bet it cuts down on your rate. I worked in student loan industry for 10+ years!!

Your right, I would talk to them about it. Should be 6 months before it starts

i work with the federal student loans, i understand that you graduated in June 07, but your grace period is actually based off your last day in class, so if you were out for a while before the actual graduation date that can affect it, if not then call up the servicer on the loan and have them update it.

also consolidating in your grace period will get you a lower rate, right now you are probably around a 6.62% after you go into repayment it goes up to 7.22% so, fix the rate and put it into a deferment or forbearence until you are able to make the payments.
