Are there any Federal Aid programs that will pay the rent for low income students in college?

I work part time, and while I’m searching for a new job, I have no immediate money with which to go to school AND pay rent. I am currently living with a friend’s family, but they are kicking me out for asinine excuses. I’m supposed to be out by December 12th. Yeah, I know. I plan on starting school in January, so I need to know if there are any government programs that will pay rent for a student while (s)he is in school, because If I don’t have money for an apartment, then I will not be able to go to school…And I need my education…If you have any info, please inform me as to how to apply for the federal aid… Thank you…

There are several different options, depending upon what type of school you are attending. For money that you don’t have to pay back, I would recommend getting Federal Pell Grants. You can do this by applying for the FAFSA at . DO NOT use . But the main problem you will encounter with trying to get a grant now is the timing. I doubt you will be able to receive any rewards in time for this upcoming spring semester.
BUT…you can still get a Stafford Loan, most likely through your school. If you are planning on attending a four-year university, then you can get this loan without having to go through a credit check. The downside of a university though is that they are so expensive that you will probably not be able to receive enough money for tuition AND rent. On the other hand, if you can go to a community college this semester and just knock out your core classes for cheaper, then you should be able to get enough money to cover both. But the only downside to this is that a community college will most likely require you to attend a preemptive meeting before they give you the loan, and will then run a credit check. I hope yours is good.
Hope this helps.
